Emily Climbs (machine méchant) is an inexact imagining of a future looking back on a past which is still future. Through a collection of performed materials: part of a one-woman show, journal entries, interview footage and found documents, we examine the person-hood of Emily Climbs; a failed science-experiment, a devoted companion, a benign provocateur, a socialized woman struggling with the burden of individualism and the American Dream. Now That’s Entertainment!

Conceived and directed by Nellie Tinder‘s Julia May Jonas with Jess Barbagallo and Marisa Lark Wallin. Performed by Kate Schroeder, Hannah Heller, Caitlin McDonough-Thayer and Marisa Lark Wallin, with music by Obie award-winning composer Heather Christian, Emily Climbs examines the Buddhist concept of no-self, the body as a prison, and a cost-benefit analysis of living too long.

On February 20 & 21, we had two work-in-progress showings of Emily Climbs at The Invisible Dog Art Center and the world premiere will be at The Brick, April 15 – May 2, 2015.
